Opmerkingen

One of the more unusual municipal paper issues in interwar European numismatics. Korçë — historically a Greek-influenced trading town in southeastern Albania — issued its own fractional currency in 1923 because the newly independent Albanian state had not yet established a functioning national monetary system. The frangar argjënt series filled a genuine transactional void, not a political one.

The 0.25 denomination is the smallest in the Korçë municipal series, and locally printed Albanian issues of this period are notoriously fragile. The paper stock used was thin and poorly sized, which means intact, unrepaired examples are considerably harder to find than the circulation numbers alone would suggest.
