| Opmerkingen |
Melilla, a Spanish enclave on the northern Moroccan coast, issued its own fractional emergency currency during the Civil War period when small-change coinage vanished from circulation almost entirely. The municipality stepped in as issuer out of necessity — the central government was in no position to supply the enclave reliably, and commerce couldn't function on barter. These tiny paper chits, stamped with an official seal to prevent forgery, circulated locally as a substitute for coins that simply weren't there.
The Gari Mon catalogue reference remains unassigned, which suggests this piece is either poorly documented or known from very few surviving examples.
