Arbúcies is a small municipality in the Selva comarca of Girona, and this 10-céntim note is one of dozens of near-identical municipal emergency issues that proliferated across Catalonia during the Civil War after the Republican government authorized local authorities to print their own fractional currency in 1937 — the central supply of small-denomination coinage having effectively collapsed. Josep Pol signed as alcalde under the authority of the Generalitat-backed municipal council.
