Obverse description Bearded head of the river god Borysthenes facing left, rendered in bold relief with flowing, wildly streaming hair and a prominent full beard, characteristic of the archaic-influenced artistic tradition of the northern Black Sea region. The facial features are strongly modeled, conveying a vigorous and somewhat rugged divine character. The portrait fills the flan, with no surrounding legend or exergual inscription.
