背面描述 A trophy of arms stands centrally, composed of a helmet, cuirass, and shields arranged in the conventional military trophy form; the composition is enclosed within a linear border. In the exergue below, the Oscan inscription KAPU is rendered in Old Italic characters, identifying the issuing city of Capua. The overall style is bold and schematic, consistent with Campanian civic bronze issues of the Second Punic War period.

附加信息

Capua's bronze coinage from this window reflects one of the most consequential defections in Italian history. Following Hannibal's destruction of the Roman army at Cannae in 216 BC, Capua — then arguably the second city of Italy — switched allegiance to Carthage, triggering a five-year Roman siege that ended in 211 BC with brutal reconquest. The city's civic rights were annulled entirely; Capua ceased to exist as a self-governing entity. Coins struck during these years were therefore among the last ever issued under Capuan authority.
