| Reverse description | Prow of a galley advancing to the right, depicted in profile with the characteristic ram (embolon) at the waterline and oar-banks suggested along the hull, reflecting the maritime importance of Prokonnesos as a city-state on the Propontis. The Greek legend ΠΡΟ is placed above and KAN below or to the side of the prow, identifying the issuing city and possibly a magistrate's name or ethnic abbreviation. The style is typical of small-module Propontine bronze issues of the 4th century BC. The surface displays an olive-green patina with areas of dark encrustation. |
