The Irnthii were a Bruttian people of southern Italy whose coinage, including this bronze, was produced during the period of intense Roman military pressure following the Pyrrhic War. Roman consolidation of Bruttium through the 270s and 260s pushed many local communities into uneasy accommodation with Rome, though some continued issuing civic bronze well into the mid-third century. Whether the Irnthii retained meaningful autonomy by this point or issued under Roman sufferance remains debated. HN Italy 543 is rare enough that die links across the handful of known specimens have not been fully mapped.
