Aegae in Macedonia — not to be confused with the more prominent Aegae in Aeolis — functioned as the original royal burial ground of the Macedonian kings even after Pella superseded it as the administrative capital. Bronze civic issues from this mint are poorly documented in terms of specific magistrate controls or issuing occasions, and the tight SNG concordance suggests the type survives in relatively few collections. The Munich and von Aulock references together place it firmly among the minor Macedonian civic bronzes struck before Philip II's monetary reorganization reshaped the region's coinage hierarchy.
