| Description de l’avers | Laureate and wreathed head of Apollo facing left, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with flowing locks of hair cascading over the neck and shoulder. The facial features are finely modelled with a straight nose, parted lips, and a serene expression characteristic of late Sicilian bronze coinage. A wreath or diadem adorns the head above the forehead. The bust fills the obverse field with no surrounding legend, consistent with the numismatic tradition of Tauromenion in this period. |

Tauromenion — modern Taormina — occupied a strategically awkward position during the Second Punic War, wavering in its loyalties as Carthaginian and Roman forces contested Sicily. By the time this issue was struck, Rome had reasserted dominance over the island and Tauromenion had settled into uneasy alignment with the new regional power. The city retained its mint largely because Rome found compliant Sicilian civic coinages administratively convenient rather than through any particular grant of privilege.
The CNS 25 classification places this among the heavier civic bronzes of the period, a denomination likely serving local market exchange rather than inter-city commerce.
