| Obverse description | Poseidon striding vigorously to the right, depicted in the archaic-to-classical Greek style with a nude or semi-draped athletic figure. His right arm is raised overhead, brandishing a trident in a striking pose, emblematic of the city's divine patron. The figure's dynamic forward stride conveys martial energy characteristic of Poseidonian bronze coinage of the late fifth century BC. The flan is irregular and the relief somewhat worn, consistent with the struck-bronze fabric of Lucanian mint production. |
