| 背面描述 | A hound depicted in full stride to the right, nose lowered to the ground in the classic pose of a dog following a scent trail. The animal is rendered with lively naturalism, its lean body stretched forward and tail extended, conveying swift movement. The ethnic inscription ΦΑΙΣ above and ΤΙΩΝ below in the field flanks the figure, reading ΦΑΙΣΤΙΩΝ, identifying the issuing city of Phaistos in Crete. The composition fills the flan with confident, bold relief typical of early Hellenistic Cretan bronze coinage. |

Phaistos, one of the oldest cities on Crete, had largely ceded regional dominance to Gortyn by the time this bronze was struck. The city's independent coinage continued into the third century despite its diminished political standing — a municipal stubbornness not uncommon among Cretan poleis slow to abandon civic identity even under pressure from more powerful neighbors.
