| Obverse description | Laureate head of Zeus facing left, rendered in archaic Greek style with flowing hair and beard visible in relief. The effigy occupies the central field of the flan, with the ethnic legend ΜΕΣΜΑΙΩΝ partially visible around the periphery. The die work exhibits the characteristic bold, somewhat rustic engraving typical of Bruttian bronze coinage of the mid-fourth century BC. The coin's surface carries an even green patina consistent with long burial, partially obscuring fine detail. |
