Phaselis occupied an unusual position among Lycian coastal cities — technically within the Lycian cultural sphere but long operating as an independent commercial hub with closer ties to Pamphylia. The city's bronze issues of this period reflect a municipal economy running on local trade rather than imperial mandate, produced in the decades following Alexander's death when the Diadochi carved up the eastern Mediterranean and smaller cities minted to keep markets functioning.

The Heipp-Tamer classification remains the authoritative typology for Phaselitan bronzes; B6 is among the better-documented varieties in that corpus.
