Tyndaris was a late foundation by Sicilian standards — established in 396 BC by Dionysius I of Syracuse as a settlement for Messenian refugees — and its bronze coinage reflects a city perpetually in someone else's orbit. By the third century BC, it had passed through Carthaginian pressure, Roman alliance, and the chaos of the First Punic War, all of which compressed its autonomous minting into short, irregular windows. CNS#9 falls into the lightest weight class of Tyndarian bronzes, suggesting output during a period of reduced civic resources rather than confident municipal production.
