Reverse description An upright palm branch (lulav) displayed centrally in the field, flanked by a Hebrew inscription reading 'Le-herut Yerushalayim' (For the freedom of Jerusalem). The palm frond is rendered with carefully incised leaflets along a central stem. The coin is an overstrike on a Roman denarius of Hadrian, and the ghosted laureate portrait of the emperor facing right is visible as an undertype beneath the Bar Kokhba devices. A plain or beaded border frames the design at the periphery of the irregular flan.
