Reverse description The reverse bears the full imperial titulature of Sultan Mahmud I in Arabic script, arranged in multiple lines within a circular border divided by three horizontal lines. The legend proclaims the sultan's sovereignty over land and sea in the traditional Ottoman formula. The inscription is deeply struck with bold calligraphic characters filling the field, consistent with the hammered technique employed for Ottoman gold coinage of this period.
