Obverse description Royal crown displayed prominently in the center of the field, with the regnal numeral 'IO·III' (João III) inscribed below in Roman characters. A small 'o' mintmark appears to the right of the crown, denoting the Porto mint. The surrounding legend, composed in Latin, runs along the inner border within a beaded circle.
