Reverse description The reverse presents a stylised cross composed of four concave-sided quadrants, forming an ornamental cruciform pattern in the centre of the field. Within each quadrant of the cross, one digit of the date is struck: 1, 6, 6, 1, reading clockwise from the upper left, recording the year of issue 1661. The design is enclosed within a plain inner circle bordered by a prominent toothed or beaded outer rim, characteristic of hammered silver coinage produced at the Goa mint for circulation in Portuguese India.
