Obverse description The obverse features the crowned Portuguese royal coat of arms, centrally positioned within an ornate cartouche with scrollwork flourishes. The shield displays the traditional quartered arms of Portugal, including the five escutcheons arranged in a cross and the red bordure with castles. A royal crown surmounts the shield. The circular legend around the periphery reads LUDOVICUS I DEI GRATIA, with the date flanked by crosses at the base of the design. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
