Obverse description Standing nude female figure facing front, holding a flaming torch in her raised right hand and an open book in her left, flanked by a griffin on either side in high relief. The date 1914 appears in the lower exergue, the engraver's signature F. PFEIFER is incised along the base, and the circular legend runs along the rim.

Reverse description The arms of the city of Leipzig depicted in high relief at center, showing a shield bearing a rampant lion over vertical stripes, surmounted by an ornate plumed helmet with elaborate acanthus mantling. The circular legend is arranged around the rim in two arcs.
