Reverse description A detailed scene depicting the Hochbrücke zu Grünthal, a large iron arch railway bridge with flanking towers, spanning the newly opened Nord-Ostsee-Kanal (Kiel Canal), with a flotilla of sailing vessels and steamships passing beneath it. A row of heraldic shields is displayed along the upper border above the bridge. The inscription in the lower field records the opening celebration and its dates.
