Obverse description Central field occupied by the Portuguese royal coat of arms surmounted by a crown, displaying the characteristic quinas (five escutcheons) arranged in a cross pattern with castles along the bordure. The shield is rendered in a plain, simplified style consistent with cast coinage of the Goa mint. The mint letters G and A flank the shield to the left and right respectively, serving as the Goa mint mark.
