Maximilian II held the Bohemian crown largely through political concession, granting the Bohemian Confession of 1575 to secure noble loyalty — a document that tolerated Protestant worship but was never formally ratified in writing, leaving it perpetually contested. The Kuttenberg mint, one of Bohemia's oldest silver-producing facilities sitting atop the rich Kutná Hora ore deposits, struck these weissgroschen under that uneasy confessional truce.
Diet references 171 and 172 reflect two distinct emission periods within the 1573–1577 window, distinguished by minor die variations catalogued by Dietiker.
