Čajavec was once Yugoslavia's most significant electronics manufacturer — a Banja Luka conglomerate producing everything from military radio equipment to household appliances. After the collapse of the socialist economy and the disruptions of the 1990s war, the holding company fragmented badly. This warm meal coupon, issued by the Društveni Standard ("Social Standard") subsidiary, reflects the company's internal welfare infrastructure: a parallel economy within a struggling enterprise, compensating workers in kind when cash payroll became unreliable.
Such internal scrip from Bosnian Serb industrial firms of this period is poorly documented and rarely surfaces in collections.
