| Reverse description | The denomination is boldly expressed in the central field by the Roman numerals XX, denoting 20 Réis, rendered in large incuse characters with small pellet stops flanking the numerals. The entire central device is encircled by a wreath of laurel or oak branches, decorated with berries or acorns, tied at the base and surmounted at the apex, creating a decorative frame typical of Portuguese hammered silver coinage of the reign of Sebastião I. The plain field within the wreath is otherwise unadorned, emphasising the numeral value. |
