| Obverse description | Central field displays a large Gothic capital letter 'M' for Manuel, surmounted by a royal crown in high relief. Flanking the base of the Gothic M are two small pellets or annulets serving as decorative stops. The entire central device is enclosed within a plain inner circle. The surrounding legend in Latin characters runs along the coin's periphery, separated by pellet stops, and references the king's full royal titulature. The flan is irregular in shape, as is typical of hammered coinage of this period. |
