| Reverse description | Central device featuring the crowned Portuguese royal arms — a shield bearing five escutcheons arranged in a cross pattern (the quinas), each charged with five bezants, set within a border of castles, representing the arms of Portugal and the Algarve. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown in the Gothic tradition. The entire armorial device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with a circular Latin legend around the periphery proclaiming the king's dominion. The strike is typical of hand-hammered production, with some weakness at the edges consistent with the irregular flan. |
