Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a plain cross divides the field into four quadrants, each containing a small rosette. The legend LEOPOLDVS runs around the periphery in uncial Latin characters, with a cross pattée above and a rosette below serving as punctuation marks. The overall design is characteristic of the hammered coinage of late medieval Tyrol, with the irregular flan lending the piece a robust, hand-struck quality.
