Reverse description A German imperial eagle descending in flight attacks a prostrate lion, which is forced toward stylized waves at right, symbolizing the defeat of the French at St. Quentin. The date 1914 / 28 AVGUST appears in the left field, and the inscription ST. QVENTIN is rendered in relief along the lower exergue.
