Obverse description Two allegorical river figures face each other in high relief, jointly holding a rifle upright between them: to the left, the Rhone personified as a bare-chested bearded male figure wearing a laurel wreath, resting his left hand on a heraldic shield bearing the thirteen stars of the Valais coat of arms; to the right, the Dranse personified as a draped female figure, supporting a shield bearing the lion passant of the Martigny coat of arms. A curved legend runs along the lower rim, with the engraver's signature HUGUENIN incised in the field.
