Obverse description Bare male head facing right, rendered in the Ibero-Hellenistic style, with wavy hair drawn back in thick locks falling to the nape of the neck. The facial features are boldly modelled with a prominent nose and strong jaw. No legend or inscription appears in the field. The portrait is set without a border, occupying the full flan in a manner typical of Cessetani bronze coinage of the early 2nd century BC.

The Cessetani were an Iberian people centered around the lower Ebro region — modern Tarragona — who came under Roman administrative pressure following the campaigns of Cato the Elder in 195 BC, the very year that brackets this issue. Roman pacification of Hispania Citerior created conditions where indigenous communities were simultaneously subjugated and permitted to mint their own bronze for local exchange, a deliberate policy that kept regional economies functional without requiring Roman coin supply to stretch into the interior.

The ACIP 1137 attribution places this piece within a well-documented Cessetanian series, though die linkage studies have shown significant variation across the emission.
