Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Melqart facing right, depicted with curly hair and draped shoulders in the Hellenistic tradition. The effigy is rendered in relatively high relief with bold, somewhat schematic modeling characteristic of Punic Iberian coinage. A beaded border encircles the central device. The style reflects the syncretic Phoenician-Hellenistic artistic conventions prevalent in the western Mediterranean during the late 2nd century BC.

Reverse description A dolphin swimming to the right is depicted in the upper field, while a large tuna fish faces left in the lower field, both rendered in naturalistic relief within a beaded border. The pairing of these two marine creatures alludes directly to the fishing industry—particularly the lucrative tuna trade—for which the coastal city of Abdera was renowned in antiquity. The Neo-Punic legend appears in the field, identifying the issuing city. The composition is characteristic of Ibero-Punic civic bronzes from the southern Hispanian coast.
