Obverse description Central field bears the elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Mahmud II, rendered in deeply struck relief with characteristic curved strokes, vertical shafts (elif), and the looped bowls (beyze) of the imperial cipher. Flanking the tughra are stylized floral sprays and foliate ornaments. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, outside of which additional floral and vegetal decorative elements fill the border zone up to the reeded rim.
