Reverse description The arms of the City of Gdańsk at center: a crowned oval shield bearing two crosses beneath a crown, supported on either side by two rampant lions facing inward, their forepaws resting on the shield. Below the shield is elaborate decorative mantling with scrollwork. The date 1617 appears split within the lower field. A circular Latin legend reads around the perimeter within a beaded border and outer rope-pattern rim, attesting the coin was struck from pure gold by the city of Gdańsk.
