| Obverse description | Crowned, bearded effigy of King Stefan Batory in right-facing profile, wearing an ornate royal crown with elaborate scrollwork and a beaded upper border. The king is depicted in armour with a ruffled collar visible at the neck. A partial circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading STEPH along the right and REX POL (or similar) to the left, with the inscription interrupted by the portrait. The style is characteristic of late 16th-century Polish hammered coinage, with bold, high-relief portraiture. |

| Reverse description | Central field bears a four-line Latin inscription reading III / ROS·NG / RI·PR·EG / CLONIA, denoting the denomination (3 groszy) and the Poznań mint (Polonia). Above the inscription, flanked by the crowned eagle of Poland on the left and the Lithuanian Pahonia (mounted knight) on the right, is a central shield bearing the arms of Hungary (alternating bars). Below the main inscription, the last two digits of the regnal year (e.g. 86 for 1586) flank a small shield bearing the Poznań city arms (a cross with two keys), with additional mint-master or assayer marks to the right. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border. |
