Obverse description Crowned and draped bust of King Stefan Batory facing right, wearing a ruffled collar and royal mantle with elaborate folds, set within the coin field. The effigy is rendered in the Renaissance portrait style typical of late 16th-century Polish coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading STEPHANVS D G REX POLONIE M D L, with pellet stops separating the abbreviations. The crown above the king's head is of the open royal type with prominent fleurons. The hammered flan gives the piece a slightly irregular outline characteristic of the period.
