The 1767 Kraków trojak falls in one of the most politically turbulent years of Poniatowski's reign — the same year Russian-backed pressure forced the Sejm to convene the so-called "Repnin Sejm," named after the Russian ambassador who effectively dictated its proceedings and secured equal rights for religious dissenters, fatally undermining noble Catholic resistance. Poniatowski had little room to govern. The mint at Kraków operated under conditions of creeping external interference that would, within seven years, produce the First Partition.
Kopicki 2277 distinguishes this variety within a short run of trojaks the Kraków facility struck before its output was increasingly subordinated to Warsaw.
