Sigismund III's trojak coinage of the early 1600s was produced across multiple minting authorities simultaneously, creating a proliferation of local variants distinguished by municipal arms and small differentiating marks. The Wschowa mint — operating under royal privilege in Greater Poland — used the Lewart (rampant lion) arms of the Myszkowski family, who held the mint lease at this time. The star on this piece is a die-specific differentiator, not decorative, placed to distinguish the output of particular engravers or production runs within a single year's striking.
