The Wilno mint — operating in what is now Vilnius — was one of several competing facilities striking trojaki for the Commonwealth in the early seventeenth century, and quality control between mints varied considerably. Sigismund III's reign saw persistent complaints from the Sejm about debased and underweight small silver, culminating in monetary reforms that repeatedly attempted to standardize the trojak's fineness. The 1608 Wilno issues fall squarely in this contested period.
Iger V.08.1 denotes a specific die pairing within Igerski's reference system for Sigismund III coinage — collectors working this series should verify the crown and mintmaster's initials carefully, as several closely related varieties from this year command meaningfully different premiums.
