Additional information

Raymond III ruled Tripoli through one of the Crusader states' most precarious stretches — his county was effectively isolated after the fall of surrounding territories, and he spent years as a prisoner of Nur ad-Din following his capture at the Battle of Haifa in 1164. The pougeoise denomination was the workhorse of Crusader copper coinage, circulating alongside Arab fulus in a market where billon and base issues from multiple polities changed hands daily.

MAL#13 places this firmly within Metcalf's classification of the Tripolitan castle type, a series with known die-linkage issues that complicate precise attribution within the 35-year span.
