| Obverse description | Forepart of a wolf in bay position, striding left with head lowered and jaws open, rendered in bold high relief. The animal's musculature and pelt are naturalistically detailed, with the forelegs extended and forepaws prominent in the lower field. The wolf, sacred to Apollo and a principal civic symbol of Argos, fills the flan with vigorous plasticity characteristic of Peloponnesian die-cutting of the late Classical period. No legend or border is present; the field is otherwise plain. |

The letters Nu (N) and Iota (I) are disposed flanking the upper portion of the Alpha. A bunch of grapes appears to the right of the Alpha, and a club is positioned below, both serving as secondary civic symbols of the mint. The incuse square border is lightly defined, consistent with early Hellenistic Argive coinage convention. |
