| Obverse description | Forepart of a wolf advancing to left in a threatening, bay posture, with open jaws and legs outstretched, rendered in bold, stylized relief characteristic of Argive coinage. The wolf, sacred to Apollo and emblematic of Argos, is depicted with strong sculptural modelling against a plain, slightly irregular field. The flan is of typical hand-struck fabric, with the design occupying the full face of the coin. |
