Obverse description Nude, bearded satyr depicted in the archaic running-kneeling pose (knielauf), advancing to the left in high relief. The figure displays vigorous musculature and characteristic Dionysiac features including a bald, ivy-wreathed head with beard. The satyr's outstretched left hand holds a kylix (drinking cup), while his body is turned slightly to display the figure in dynamic motion. The composition fills the irregular flan with bold, confident die-cutting characteristic of Thasian coinage of the early fourth century BC.
