Additional information

Sikyon's bronze issues of this period were produced under the shadow of the city's complicated relationship with the Achaean League, of which it became a leading member after Aratos of Sikyon orchestrated its liberation from Macedonian control in 251 BC. By the late third century, Sikyon functioned as effectively the administrative heart of the League, giving even its small bronze denominations a political weight out of proportion to their size.

The BCD Peloponnesos reference places this piece within one of the most rigorously documented regional collections ever assembled — the BCD collection, dispersed by Leu Numismatik, remains the benchmark against which Peloponnesian bronzes are still catalogued.
