Obverse description Facing bust of King Suinthila in the central field, rendered in the stylized late antique manner characteristic of Visigothic coinage, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The bust is shown with schematic facial features and a diadem or helmet-like headdress, with a decorative element below suggesting draped shoulders or a torque. Surrounding the central device, the retrograde or irregular Latin legend +SVINTHILA REX is distributed around the periphery in bold, somewhat angular letterforms. Star-shaped and cross-shaped ornamental devices punctuate the legend in the field. The coin border is formed by a row of small beads or pellets.
