| Obverse description | Facing bust of King Sisenand in the centre of the field, depicted in a highly stylised, degenerate manner characteristic of late Visigothic coinage, with pendilia hanging from either side of the head and a schematic drapery below. A cross pattee is visible above the bust. The surrounding Latin legend +SISENANDVS RE runs along the periphery, separated from the bust by a beaded inner border. The overall design reflects the progressive abstraction of the Byzantine imperial prototype. |

| Additional information |
Sisenand seized the Visigothic throne in 631 by deposing Suinthila with Frankish military assistance — a deal reportedly secured by promising the Franks the Missorium of Aetius, a famous gold dish of enormous prestige. Whether that dish ever changed hands remains disputed. His reign lasted only five years before his death in 636, making Toledo-mint gold from this period genuinely scarce by survival rates alone.
