| Obverse description | Facing bust of King Recceswinth rendered in the highly stylized late Visigothic manner, set within a beaded inner circle. The bust displays schematic facial features with a pronounced nose and simplified diadem, characteristic of the degenerate portrait style of seventh-century Visigothic coinage. A second beaded border frames the composition, with the royal legend disposed around the periphery of the flan in angular, roughly executed Latin capital letters. The overall design reflects the increasingly abstract treatment of the royal effigy during the later Visigothic period. |
