Obverse description Frontal facing bust of the king in the central field, rendered in the stylized Visigothic manner with a broad, schematic face, prominent pellet eyes, and a beaded diadem or crown indicated by a row of pellets atop the head. The bust is draped and cuirassed, with a decorative collar or neckpiece visible below the chin. Surrounding the central effigy is the circular Latin legend RECCAREDVS REX, executed in the characteristic angular, degenerate letterforms typical of late Visigothic coinage, arranged around the periphery of the flan.
