| Obverse description | Facing bust of King Gundemaro rendered in the stylized Visigothic manner, depicted wearing a diadem with pendilia and a draped garment forming a triangular body tapering toward the base of the flan. The face is schematically rendered with large eyes, a prominent nose, and a pearl-beaded necklace or collar visible at the throat. The circular Latin legend + GVNDEMARVS REX runs around the periphery, interrupted at the top by a cross pattee. The overall style reflects the late antique Byzantine influence adapted to Visigothic royal coinage. |
