Obverse description Facing or slightly right-turned stylized royal bust in the central field, rendered in the debased late Visigothic manner with schematic facial features and a beaded or pellet eye. A Latin cross appears to the right of the effigy within the field. The portrait is encircled by a beaded border. The surrounding legend reads the king's name in retrograde or partially garbled Latin capitals, characteristic of late Visigothic mint engraving.

Reverse description Central motif consisting of a large rayed or cross-pommee symbol with a central pellet or annulet, radiating arms terminating in pellets or globules, rendered in the distinctive schematic Visigothic style. The design is contained within a beaded inner border. The surrounding circumferential legend names the issuing mint of Salmantica (modern Salamanca), written in degraded Latin capitals around the periphery of the flan.
